DMM-1232 ASME B16.25 EN ISO 9692-1

DMM-1232 Double-Sided Plate Edge Milling Machine

Twin-head plate edge miller that bevels the top and bottom of the edge in the same pass — X and K weld preps on 4 – 55 mm plate without turning the plate over. The top head sets 0° – 45°, the bottom 0° – 60°, and each cuts bevel width up to 40 mm; at 0° it mills a straight edge for trimming. Built for medium to thick plate in production shops.

02 Working Principle

The cost of a double-sided bevel is the plate turn-over, not the cut

On an X or K joint the machining itself is not what takes the time. Cutting the first face is a normal pass; what follows is the expensive part — unclamp, crane the plate over, re-square it, re-clamp, re-zero, cut again. On plate over half a tonne that handling cycle routinely costs more than both cuts together, and every re-fixture is another chance for the two bevel faces to end up misaligned about the plate centreline. The DMM-1232 puts a cutter above and below the edge and drives both from the same feed axis. Small plate feeds itself through the stationary machine; on large plate the plate stays put and the machine travels along the edge. Either way the edge passes the heads once, and because the two faces are cut in the same setup by heads referencing the same datum, they stay symmetric without anyone measuring for it.

03 Key Features

Built for the job site.

// 01
Top and bottom bevelled in one pass
Both cutting heads engage the same edge simultaneously, so a double-sided prep takes one pass instead of two passes plus a turn-over.
// 02
No plate flipping
Removes the crane lift, re-squaring and re-clamping cycle from double-sided prep. On heavy plate this is usually the largest single time saving in the whole edge-prep operation.
// 03
Symmetric bevel geometry by construction
Both faces are cut in the same setup from the same datum, so the two halves of an X joint stay aligned about the plate centreline instead of depending on how accurately the plate was re-squared.
// 04
Plate feeds or machine travels
Small plate passes through the stationary machine automatically; on large plate the plate stays put and the machine walks the edge on its own, so one machine covers both part sizes.
// 05
Up to 40 mm bevel width per face, plus 0° edge milling
The top head sets 0° – 45° and the bottom head 0° – 60°, each independently. A single cutter takes 15 mm of bevel width per pass and repeat passes reach 40 mm on each face; at 0° the same head mills a square edge for trimming.
// 06
Cold milling — no heat-affected zone
Mechanical cutting with no carbonisation or deformation leaves parent metallurgy intact, at Ra 3.0 – 12.0 μm. Suited to stainless, high-strength, high-hardness and heat-resistant steels, where a thermally cut edge would need grinding back before code welding.
// 07
320 kg machine, 6 kW of cutting power
Two 3.0 kW spindles and two 550 W feed motors in a light machine with simple controls and low consumable cost.
06 FAQ

Common questions about the DMM-1232.

Can't find your answer?

Which weld preparations can it produce?
X-groove, K-groove and double-V — any preparation where both the top and bottom of the plate edge are bevelled. The top face is adjustable from 0° to 45° and the bottom face from 0° to 60°, and at 0° the heads mill a straight, square edge for trimming.
Can the top and bottom angles be set independently?
Yes. The two heads are adjusted separately, so asymmetric double-V preps (a deeper face on one side) are possible within 0° – 45° on the top head and 0° – 60° on the bottom head.
How wide and deep can each bevel be?
Bevel width runs from 0 to 40 mm on each face and bevel depth from 1 to 25 mm. A single cutter pass takes up to 15 mm of width; wider bevels are built up over repeat passes.
How does this compare with running a single-sided machine twice?
The cutting time is similar; the handling time is not. A single-sided machine needs the plate unclamped, turned, re-squared and re-clamped between faces, and the two faces then depend on how accurately that was done. Both matter more as plate weight rises.
What if my plate is thinner than 4 mm or thicker than 55 mm?
Thin plate can be stacked two at a time and cut together. Above 55 mm, use the DMM heavy-duty hydraulic edge miller for single-sided prep up to 150 mm, or the DMM-90X flip-over edge miller for double-sided work on plate up to 80 mm.
What comes in the standard supply?
The complete machine, two boxes of blades, a special disassembly tool set and the operating manual. The machine runs on AC 380 V, 50 Hz.
