LPM Electric Tube Facing Machine (AC, High-Torque)

1300 W Metabo-driven benchtop tube facer for sustained production. Constant torque indefinitely, planetary gear reduction on larger models for low-RPM finish on thick-wall sanitary tube. Faces tube Ø 3.17 – 114.3 mm with wall up to 5 mm — the production-shop standard for high-purity tube fabrication.

02 Working Principle

Why planetary gear reduction matters on large-OD sanitary tube

Cutter linear speed at the workpiece is RPM × π × diameter. On a small 1/4" tube at 420 RPM, the linear speed is moderate; on a 4.5" tube at the same RPM, linear speed quadruples — exceeding the carbide tooling's optimal Vc and causing premature insert wear and a poor surface finish. The LPM-3.5 AC and LPM-4.5 AC use planetary gear reduction to drop cutter speed to 150 RPM while preserving torque from the 1300 W Metabo motor. This puts the cutting interface back in the optimal Vc window for stainless and Cr-Mo work — sustaining insert life and producing the burr-free surface finish required for ASME BPE orbital welding.

03 Key Features

Built for the job site.

// 01
1300 W Metabo AC — sustained torque indefinitely
Constant torque from grid power; no battery cycling. Sized for batch production where the operator faces tens to hundreds of tubes per shift without thermal cycling or recharging.
// 02
Planetary gear reduction on LPM-3.5 / 4.5
Drops cutter speed to 150 RPM on larger models to keep linear cutting speed in the optimal Vc window for stainless and Cr-Mo. Critical for surface finish on tubes above 2".
// 03
Full-contact stainless collets
Annular full-circumference grip. No witness marks on electropolished (EP) or bright-annealed (BA) sanitary tubing per ASME BPE §SF requirements.
// 04
Covers 1/8" to 4.5" OD
Four sizes span the full sanitary tube range used in pharma, food and semiconductor fabrication. Single-supplier solution for a complete tube-prep cell.
// 05
Cold cut — burr-free for orbital welding
Carbide insert at controlled feed produces oxide-free, burr-free end ready for orbital welding without secondary preparation. Preserves stainless passive layer.
// 06
Benchtop stability (10 – 45 kg)
Heavier build (35 / 45 kg on LPM-3.5 / 4.5) provides bench rigidity for long production runs. The pipe comes to the machine — opposite workflow to the LPM cordless variant.
06 FAQ

Common questions about the LPM · AC Series.

Can't find your answer?

My tube size is not in the collet list — can the machine still face it?
Yes. The sizes listed are the five collets that ship as standard with each machine. Any diameter up to that model's maximum can be faced — each tube size simply needs its own dedicated collet. A 1" tube runs on the LPM-1.0 AC because it is inside the 25.4 mm limit; a non-standard size anywhere below the limit is a collet order, not a different machine. Smaller optional collets are available too: 3.17 mm for the LPM-1.0 AC, 6.35 mm for the LPM-1.5 AC, and 9.52 / 12.7 / 19.05 mm for the larger bodies. Send the list of sizes you actually run and we will specify the set.
AC or DC LPM — which should I order?
Choose AC for benchtop batch production where the tube comes to the operator and the work duty justifies a fixed station. AC handles larger OD (up to 4.5" vs DC's 2.5") and thicker wall (5 mm vs 3 mm) with sustained torque. Choose DC for cordless install work in cleanrooms and field positions where AC routing is restricted.
When do I need the geared LPM-3.5 or LPM-4.5 specifically?
For tubes above 2" OD. At 420 RPM the linear cutting speed on a 3" or 4" tube exceeds the optimal Vc for stainless and Cr-Mo — destroying carbide insert life and producing a poor surface finish. The geared 150 RPM cutter speed restores correct linear cutting conditions.
Does it work on Cr-Mo and Inconel as well as stainless?
Yes — match the carbide insert grade to the material (M-grade for stainless and Inconel; S-grade for superalloys). The geared variants are particularly suited to Cr-Mo and Inconel where lower cutter RPM is essential for insert life.
Is the face finish compatible with orbital welding fit-up?
Yes — Ra typically < 3.2 μm directly off the tool. Meets the fit-up tolerance of all major orbital welding heads (Polysoude, Arc Machines, Magnatech) without secondary preparation.
