DC / DY Double-Head ISO 286 H7 / H8 (length tolerance) DIN 6784 chamfer geometry

Double-Head Automatic Pipe Chamfering Machine

Both-ends-at-once automatic chamfering station — synchronized milling heads cut both pipe ends in the same 3–5 second cycle. Halves cycle time versus single-head and produces perfect length consistency for robotic welding downstream. Pipe lengths 20 – 1600 mm standard, extendable to 6000 mm.

02 Working Principle

Why both-ends-at-once cuts production time in half

Two synchronized milling heads, one at each end of the workpiece, advance simultaneously on the same cycle command. Both pipe ends are chamfered and faced in the same 3 – 5 seconds — versus 6 – 10 seconds and two operator pedal-presses on a single-head machine. Length consistency drops out automatically: because both ends are referenced to the machine's rigid bed (not to a chuck and an unmeasured pipe length), every part is identical to within ±0.1 mm. This length consistency is what enables downstream robotic welding cells, which fail when input parts vary by more than ±0.3 mm in length. The DY-180-2 adds a full-length material pallet to prevent long, heavy pipes (e.g. scaffolding tube) from sagging during the cycle — required when finished length exceeds about 1 m for heavy-wall stock.

03 Key Features

Built for the job site.

// 01
Synchronized dual heads — both ends in one cycle
Two milling heads cycle in synchrony from a single command. Cycle time per piece (counting both ends) drops to 3 – 5 seconds — half of single-head workflow.
// 02
±0.1 mm length tolerance
Length is referenced to the rigid bed, not to clamping position. Every part emerges identical — the prerequisite for downstream robotic welding cell input.
// 03
Automatic feed + clamp + eject
Optional auto-loading hopper feeds blanks; clamping is automatic; finished parts eject onto exit conveyor. Operator-to-machine ratio reaches 3:1 for high-volume runs.
// 04
20 – 1600 mm standard, 6000 mm with extension
Standard bed handles short and medium parts. Extended bed configurations (DC-50-2, DC-80-2, DY-180-2) accept structural-tube lengths up to 6 m — scaffolding, fence post, hand-rail production.
// 05
Pneumatic (DC) or hydraulic (DY)
DC pneumatic for thin-wall furniture and automotive tubing at high cycle speed. DY hydraulic for heavy-wall hydraulic pipe, scaffolding tube and automotive axle stock.
// 06
Full-pallet support on DY-180-2
Heavy-duty model adds full-length workpiece pallet to prevent sag during clamping and machining of long, heavy pipes (e.g. scaffolding tube, Sch 80 carbon steel above 2 m length).
06 FAQ

Common questions about the DC / DY Double-Head.

Can't find your answer?

When is double-head worth the cost premium over single-head?
Above ~500 pieces per shift, double-head pays back through cycle-time savings within 12 – 18 months. Below that volume, single-head's lower acquisition cost wins. Other tipping factors: downstream robotic welding (length consistency is non-negotiable) or matched-end requirements (e.g. cylinder tube where both ends must finish identically).
Can the same machine handle short tubes and 6 m tubes?
Within a model family, yes — bed extensions are available, but each machine has a defined working length envelope. Short-pipe specialists like DY-60-2 (20 – 100 mm) are not the same machine as long-pipe DC-50-2 (200 – 1600 mm). Specify your shortest and longest part at quotation; we will match you to one or two machines as needed.
Do I need automatic feeding?
Optional. With manual loading, operator places each blank in the bed and presses cycle — typical 3000-5000 cycles per shift achievable. With automatic hopper feeding, that rises to 5000-8000 cycles per shift on small-to-medium parts. The breakeven is roughly 2000 pieces/shift sustained.
Does the machine cut chamfers other than 45°?
Yes — tool head accepts custom geometry. Standard tooling is 45° C-flat and R-radius; custom angles (15°, 30°, 37.5°) and J-prep available via interchangeable tool set. Specify chamfer requirement at quotation.
